Food and Fruit

Thai food is one of the world’s most famous and sought-after cuisines. The favorite dish is the  Tom Yam Kung, a spicy soup with large prawns. Also notable are Tom Kha Kai, a coconut cream soup with chicken and Pad Thai, or stir-fried rice noodles.

Spices and fresh herbs play a vital role in Thai cuisine and not only do they add a wonderful taste to the food, but there is therapeutic value in many of the ingredients. A common ingredient in Thai cuisine and traditional health remedies is lemongrass, which has much medicinal value as an analgesic, anti-depressant, antimicrobial, antipyretic, astringent, bactericidal and carminative tonic.

Nowhere else in the world has the variety of tropical and seasonal fruits as Thailand, with mango, durian, mangosteen and rambutan the common favorites. Fruits can be enjoyed on their own or as a complement to desserts, such as the popular sweetened sticky rice and mango.
